The Birth of an Idea

Instilling Hope, Healing, and Love

Where We began

On a group trip to DR Congo in June 2008, Exile International founder and psychologist, Bethany Williams, encountered a darkness she had never seen before: child soldiers who asked her to be their mother, women who attempted to give over their children, stories of women sexually abused time and time again, and children so traumatized they showed no emotion.

Visiting with many men, women and children living in displacement camps led a realization that people were not only living in geographic exile, but in emotional exile as well.

Exile Today

Where we once thought this organization would be a small umbrella providing trauma care in a few communities, Exile International will bring healing and hope to over 1,100 child survivors of war this year alone. Thanks to our local leaders and counselors in Uganda and DR Congo – lives are being transformed!
