MANAGING DIRECTOR

The Need

As a leader in operations and strategic implementation, you will have the opportunity to support, develop, and empower our staff – ensuring they are equipped to carry out Exile International’s mission in restoring rescued child soldiers and children orphaned by war to become leaders for peace through art therapy and holistic, rehabilitative care. To broaden the depth of experience among EI’s executive team, we are seeking an operations leader with proven success in managing, leading, and implementing strategy.

As a cross-functional leader, the Managing Director will oversee daily operations and implement strategies, processes, and operational tasks to empower EI to serve all constituents efficiently and effectively.

Position Description

Program Supervision, Management and Strategic Planning

  • Lead the collaborative processes of daily operations, implementing short and long-term strategic vision, and tactical plans to accomplishing EI’s mission — restoring and empowering children of war to become leaders for peace
  • Coordinate with domestic and international partners
  • Supervise DRC and Uganda program managers — overseeing progress and tracking measurable strategic objectives
  • Support administrative and management needs

Organizational Development, Human Resources & Leadership

  • Provide on-going support for field managers and domestic staff — empowering your teammates to succeed in their roles
  • Serve as lead for all field office employee relations and performance management as well as certain employee development matters
  • Oversee strategic management of domestic team: including performance management and reviews, employee relations, legal compliance, the implementation of best practices, and, to a lesser extent, compensation & benefits
  • Lead in the development of a staffing plan that includes appropriate training and professional development
  • Support the Executive Team in the shaping and maintaining of a healthy organizational culture as the organization grows and evolves
  • Evaluate and strengthen internal policies, procedures, & processes
  • Offer leadership to compensation and benefit programs as appropriate

Program Management

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with appropriate domestic and international organizations
  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight to ensure programs are effectively achieving their intended impact
  • Further develop and implement strategic goals to further the success of EI’s mission
  • Participate in the planning and development of annual program goals and objectives in conjunction with the strategic plan. 
  • Offer key leadership to international program, coordinating program managers and staff

Finance & Administrative

  • Assist program leadership to ensure the timely submission of operational and financial reports required for internal monthly reporting
  • Through collaboration with the Financial Coordinator, ensure the proper maintenance of appropriate financial records and preparation of required financial reports;
  • Facilitate the development of and adherence to an annual budget and provide for the preparation of clear, concise financial reporting to the Board, management and external constituencies
  • Participate in budget planning and monitor programming budgets
  • Participate and support grant writing related to the mission of the agency.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of funding applications
  • Monitors program budget within the assigned areas

Information & Technology Systems

  • Lead the team in the selection, implementation and proper utilization of technology solutions to accomplish organizational objectives
  • Through collaboration with the team and communications professionals, support the organizational marketing and fund development efforts through best practice tools and technology

Key Qualifications

  • Mature orthodox Christian faith, as indicated by an agreement with EI’s Statement of Faith
  • Personal confession of Christian faith and commitment to the mission and vision of Exile International
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, including effective time management and prioritization of competing demands and multiple deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, database query and problem-solving skills
  • Solid PC-based computer skills: familiarity with Microsoft Office and prior use of project management software, such as Basecamp, is desirable
  • Bachelors degree in business management, organizational development, or related field preferred
  • Three plus years experience in a strategic planning and operations management with demonstrated success at team leadership

  • Ability to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with program staff, parents, and community agency representatives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Other Information

  • This position is based in Nashville, TN
  • Reports to the Executive Director
  • Managing Director will be the direct supervisor for Administrative Coordinator, Financial Coordinator, and Africa Programs Directors
