After believing education might never be possible, Daniel found encouragement, returned to school, and completed nursing training. Today, he is caring for patients in Uganda and dreaming of making healthcare more accessible in his community.
Daniel once believed he might never attend school.
As the eldest boy in a family of five, he helped his mother provide for their family. She worked in neighbors’ gardens, and Daniel joined other young boys doing garden work for small amounts of money.
At the time, life felt focused entirely on survival, with little hope for what might come next.

Encouraged to Hope Again
Daniel’s path began to change after he attended a trauma-healing group in his village.
Looking back, Daniel points to God’s faithfulness as the foundation to what happened next. Remembering the promise of Jeremiah 29:11, he shared that the Lord knew the plans He had for him. After Daniel attended the trauma-healing group, Exile International Uganda mentors—known locally as Aunts and Uncles—counseled, guided, and encouraged him to hope again.
With help from Exile’s team, Daniel later enrolled in school, where he completed both primary and secondary education with excellent performance. During those years, his desire to become a nurse began to grow.
A Dream Becomes Reality
Daniel went on to earn a degree in nursing. His desire to be a nurse grew even stronger while completing supervised clinical training in public hospitals. After two years of nursing practice, Daniel says he is now equipped to care for patients and is grateful for the opportunities he has to serve people in need of proper care.
But Daniel is already looking ahead.
“My dream is to establish clinics and make medicine affordable for people in my community.”
His vision is not only to build a career, but to use what he has learned to help others. Daniel hopes to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives and help his community.
Today, Daniel is one of many young leaders helping write a new story for their communities. Across Exile, 89% of care programs are led by graduates who once received care themselves—evidence that healing multiplies across families, communities, and generations.
