Esdras’ Story: From Trauma to Restoration

Esdras was just a young boy when his childhood was marked by fear and violence. He was exposed to experiences no child should ever face, leaving him deeply traumatized and unsure of what his future could hold.

For many months, Esdras lived in constant fear, separated from safety and stability. The pain he carried — both seen and unseen — weighed heavily on his heart, and hope felt distant.

After a year of suffering, Esdras was able to return to his community. It was there that he learned about Exile International’s Peace Lives Center, a place where healing and restoration are made possible.

At Exile International, his journey toward healing began. Through art-focused trauma care, worship, and vocational training, he was given the space to process his trauma and rebuild his confidence. He returned to school, earned his diploma in Technical Building, and even secured a building contract to help construct a local youth center.

After completing Exile’s programs, Esdras went on to become an engineer and build a stable life for himself. Today, he has a family of his own and gives back to his community by encouraging other young people who have experienced deep hardship or lost hope.

Esdras’ story is a testament to the power of restoration. He is grateful for Exile International and the programs that restore dignity, purpose, and hope to children affected by the trauma of war.
